How to Focus Your Creative Power With the New Targeting Exercise

Today, I’m going to share with you an exercise that I developed called the targeting exercise. I’m also really excited to offer you a free downloadable PDF. Print as many copies of this as you like, and I encourage you to do this exercise numerous times to help you get clear about what you want, what you need to do to achieve that, and some other important steps in between.

Watch this seven-minute video for complete instructions and a personal example.

Let’s get started.

In the center of the bullseye is the question: what do I want to experience or create?

Notice: experience could be sail across the world or sail around the world. I’m going to say what I want to create is a creativity prescription. workbook, right. So I have written I want to create a creativity prescription workbook, right in the center there.

Now, the next layer of the bullseye is the question: with or for whom?

You can see that I’ve written this question here, three times. Each instance has a number by it. That’s because you may want to do your project or create the experience for or with other people.

Next ring: why do I want this?

Again, there are five numbers corresponding to the five instances of the question on the worksheet. You don’t have to have five reasons. But if you do, then great, you have five spaces to put them.

And then finally, on the outside, there are these little bubbles and each bubble has the same start phrase: one possible way to create this experience….

The idea here is to open your mind and your heart to whatever wants to emerge. Free yourself to write down anything. There are no right answers. There are no incorrect answers. There are no bad ideas here. They’re just thoughts and ideas and possibilities. And the more possibilities that you can create for yourself. The more you put yourself in the path of luck, as one of my wonderful mentors used to tell me.

Put yourself in the path of luck!

These are the basic instructions for how to use The Creativity Prescription Targeting Exercise. Again, I encourage you to print up as many of these worksheets as you would like and use them anytime that you are thinking that you want to create or have a new experience in your life and really drill down. Sometimes, you may find that you fill this out, and when it comes right down to it, you don’t really have any strong why’s. You don’t have any strong motivation for that thing that you thought you really wanted to have, or create, or experience. And that’s really great information. Because if you’re not really that motivated, then maybe you can let that one go, you know? And that’s okay. In fact, that’s great.

Please feel free to get in touch and let me know how this worked for you. I’d love to talk to you about your goals. You can contact me here.
