Permission to Write in 6 Steps

Resistance reared its ugly head and threatened my writing goals. But I cut that resistance out and gave myself permission to keep writing.

How is resistance pulling you away from your writing? Today, give yourself permission to work through whatever story you’re telling yourself about why you shouldn’t write.

  1. Ask aloud or write in your journal: Why shouldn’t I write today?
  2. Write the story in your journal.
  3. Read the story.
  4. Ask yourself: How true is that story? Do I NEED to believe that story? What might happen if I un-believe that story?
  5. Respond in your journal.
  6. Open your calendar and create a regular writing schedule that you can follow for the next two weeks. Make sure you enter each writing session into the calendar, with an alarm to remind you before each session.
